Joseph Funk (he/him) is a hard-hitting trumpet player and composer/arranger from Toronto. He is known for his versatile artistry and technical ability, which allow him to make waves in numerous genres, including jazz, R&B, and commercial music.

As a sideperson, he has worked with Grammy and Juno-winning/nominated musicians like Terri Lyne Carrington, Denzal Sinclaire, William Carn & Tara Davidson, Ernesto Cervini, Kae Murphy, and Alexis Baro. Joseph has contributed his horn and arrangements/compositions to artists such as Rocco, bbno$, Chris Ma, Koven Wei, Extended Mix, Bureh Bollo-Kamara’s “The Shop”, Live Video Game Orchestra, and Minh Hoang's Duck Society. As a leader, he has brought his music to spaces such as the Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar, Drom Taberna, the Toronto Jazz Festival, the Markham Jazz Festival, and is the 2025 Artist of the Year at the Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival with his own group, Funk10tet.

He received a full-tuition scholarship at the University of Toronto and studied with notable players such as Jason Logue, Jim Lewis, Rebecca Hennessey, John MacLeod, and Kevin Turcotte, as well as theory, arranging, and composition with Andrew Downing, Terry Promane, and Christian Overton.

Joseph’s sound and unmistakable creative musical presence have led him to be one of the new distinctive trumpet voices in Toronto.
